The Joint Bellerose Business District Development Corporation (JBBDDC) was founded in 1995 as a not for profit local development corporation by local merchants, residents and civic organizations from the Queens and Nassau sections of Bellerose. The organizations mission is to improve and increase business activity along Jamaica Avenue, Jericho Turnpike and portions of Braddock Avenue (between Jamaica Avenue and Gettysburg Street), and to enhance the quality of life and shopping opportunities for Bellerose residents. JBBDDCs formation represents the first-ever, joint effort of the three communities that make up Bellerose to work toward the common goal of strengthening and improving the Bellerose communitys central business district.
Since its founding in 1995, JBBDCC has made great strides toward the physical and economic improvement of the Bellerose Business District. Through largely volunteer efforts, JBBDDC has:
completed a study of market conditions and development recommendations
for the Bellerose business district;
published a directory listing more than 150 businesses along Jamaica
Avenue/Jericho Turnpike;
raised funds to initiate a coordinated business district identity and
promotional program, including the design of a business district logo,
the design and placement of attractive promotional banners on lampposts
along the commercial strip, and creation and installation of welcome
signs placed at key entrance points to the business district;
secured over $400,000 to install cast iron ornamental streetlights and
to hire an architect to create facade design recommendations to create
an improved streetscape for the business district,
began work with New York City Department of Transportation to improve
commercial parking conditions within the business district;
initiated a tree planting program along Jamaica Avenue/Jericho Turnpike
through the Greenstreets program; and,
hired a design/architectural consultant to develop a storefront improvement
plan and facade and signage design guidelines.
Marketing, Promotion & Communication JBBDDC publishes a quarterly newsletter, with periodic updates, to keep you informed of whats happening within the Bellerose business district and to let you know of programs and services that may be of value to your business. The JBBDDC also publishes a directory of Bellerose businesses that is distributed to the local residential community and throughout the greater Bellerose area.
Improved Access to Municipal Services JBBDDC can help to cut the "red tape" with local and regional government by assisting you to resolve municipal service delivery issues or to obtain permits needed to operate an existing or new businessgiving you more time to operate your business.
Business and Technical Assistance Services JBBDDC offers a range of business support services aimed at reducing business operational costs and improving the delivery of municipal services. These include, cooperative advertising and marketing programs, and special workshops designed to improve your business and keep you informed of new government programs and services.
Facade Improvement Program JBBDDC recently received funding from NYS to implement a facade and signage improvement program for the businesses within the Bellerose business district. This program will offer matching grants to Bellerose businesses to help offset the costs of facade and signage improvements. To participate, businesses must be willing to follow predetermined design guidelines. To see examples of the types of improvements that JBBDDC will consider and specific program guidelines, click here.
Banner Program In an effort to bring some identity to the Bellerose business district and identify it to the thousands of passing motorist, JBBDDC has developed decorative banners that are hung from streetlamps along Jericho Turnpike/Jamaica Avenue. To see samples of the types of banners available and to find out how you can sponsor a banner and get your business' name prominently displayed, click here.
